The Awakened Soul
Honoring the Soul’s Intentions
From the soul’s point of view we prioritize growth on our spiritual journey, which means that events the ego interprets as obstacles or disappointments are viewed as vehicles for evolution and expansion to the soul.
Seen in this light, our challenges, instead of simply being problems to be navigated through, can become entry points into the realm of Spirit. Each time we recognize and honor the truth and authenticity of the soul’s perspective, we nurture our multi-dimensional selves.
What the soul the soul longs to do is completely awaken from what is often described as the veil of forgetting. Many people go through life largely unaware of their immeasurable connection with the Divine. That connection might be temporarily forgotten as we immerse ourselves in life on Earth, but it can never be broken. Our true self, that spark of soul Light from the ocean of Divine Light, steers us back, time and again, toward union with God.
An Expanded View
Awakening involves dissolving the false idea of separation or distance from Divine Source we held when we thought we were just a physical body. And with that expanded viewpoint, we’re able to observe and then release limiting patterns, conditioning, and beliefs that once held us in spiritual amnesia.
Finally seeing without those filters, we’re increasingly able to live from a heart-centered space of compassion, openness, acceptance, and unconditional love. The more we embrace and embody the qualities of the heart, the more we experience guidance and wisdom from our soul. We find that life changes, uplifted by the enduring qualities of gratitude, peace, and gladness. Essentially, it’s a shift from fear to love, one that allows us to navigate whatever life brings us with greater freedom and ease.
Direct Spiritual Experience
Living from that place of awareness or enlightenment is often the result of having had a firsthand experience of the presence of the Divine. Nothing can substitute for that direct, mystical contact, even if it lasts for just a few moments. It sets the soul aflame with the object of re-experiencing that beauty and light, and bestows a gift of clarity that is unmatched.
From then on, the spiritual journey is sustained through having had that direct revelation of truth. No dogma, ritual, or formalized teaching at odds with what you now know can ever disrupt your growth again, or derail you from your authentic path. You know without question that God is love, acceptance, forgiveness, and joy, and that you, a treasured soul, are completely loved, sustained, and supported.
Heart-Centered Action
As we expand into greater degrees of awareness of our unbreakable connection to the divine, our lives reflects that well-spring of grace. We’re drawn to serve, for the empathy we have makes us want to help alleviate suffering in its many forms. And whatever one does in that effort, large or small, is a valued contribution to the greater good. Simply offering a smile, or giving comfort to someone in need, or listening to and holding space for someone to feel truly seen and heard, is God’s work in action.
You’ll find that your unique gifts come to the forefront now, and those special talents put to use to help others also bring you great joy and satisfaction. You’re doing what you were born to do, fully in alignment with the highest version of yourself, and that sense of passion and fulfillment is unmistakable. Your contribution to the world could be through a vocation, or volunteer work, or simply being a presence of light with your family, co-workers, neighbors, and friends. By emitting peace, gratitude, and unconditional love, your divinely connected presence streams life force energy into all your activities, benefitting everyone.
The writer Neale Donald Walsch describes this state of being so beautifully; “You are goodness and mercy and compassion and understanding. You are peace and joy and light. You are forgiveness and patience, strength and courage, a helper in time of need, a comforter in time of sorrow, a healer in time of injury, a teacher in times of confusion. You are the deepest wisdom and the highest truth; the greatest peace and the grandest love. You are these things. And in moments of your life you have known yourself to be these things. Choose now to know yourself as these things always.”
Getting There
Awakening is a journey we’ll all eventually make, one that can require a significant amount of energy, patience, willingness, and trust. At times during the spiritual awakening process, we might experience feelings of stagnation or lack of progress, as well as periods of turbulence due to the deep level of inner work that is often required.
The ebb and flow of emotions and the varying pace of momentum are completely natural. For each of us the journey of awakening has a timing all its own, and it is made easier through having a daily practice that brings peace and spiritual connection, such as prayer and meditation.
An Awakened Life
Awakening to the true self means leaving behind illusions of separation, for there is no longer the unquestioning identification with the body and mind as one’s sole identity. As we awaken we claim our spiritual sovereignty; our divine connection is now far beyond the influence of any inaccurate narratives. We’re free to access the vibrant stream of well-being that has always resided within us. And the light we carry, so transformative in our own journey, helps others to discover that spark of light within themselves.
“My daily affairs are quite ordinary; but I’m in total harmony with them. I don’t hold on to anything, don’t reject anything; nowhere an obstacle or conflict. Who cares about wealth or honor? Even the poorest thing shines. My miraculous power and spiritual activity: drawing water and carrying wood.” -Layman P’ang
