Timeless Wisdom
The principles of spiritual wisdom span all eras and cultures, and share common threads. They encompass ancient practices, the collective history of the world’s spiritual traditions, and the insights of great teachers who have walked this path. Equally important, they also bridge the chasm between science and spirituality, bringing us essential knowledge for living our best life.
The great wisdom traditions celebrate the power of unconditional love, kindness, forgiveness, empathy, peacefulness, compassion, service, authenticity, and prayer. By embodying these attributes we’re uplifted, putting us in the flow of grace, certain that the energy of God’s presence is greater than any challenge or condition we might encounter. This presence in our lives increasingly guides and supports us as we deepen this connection.
We recognize God as being the infinite, creative intelligence that operates throughout the universe, and whose unlimited power, love, and wisdom upholds all of existence. We each carry a spark of that eternal essence, since our identity as a soul is who we really are. Our day-to-day lives can obscure that reality, but as we grow in spiritual wisdom, we’re recovering that awareness. As we do, the beauty of life opens up for us, and we experience our oneness with Spirit.
Ernest Holmes describes this well: “I live in the faith that there is a presence and power greater than I am that nurtures and supports me in ways I could not even imagine. I know that this presence is all knowing and all power and is always right where I am.” Like so many spiritual teachers across a variety of religious traditions, he states that our highest satisfaction comes from consciously reuniting with the Divine. In truth, it’s what the spiritual journey is all about.
The Extraordinary Power of Love
There is nothing more powerful in the universe than unconditional love; it is the nature and energy of God, radiating its presence through all things seen and unseen. It’s the Divine intelligence at the center of creation, and when we’re in the flow of that love, we’re empowered and Spirit-filled.
Unconditional love is actually our original, natural state of being. It knows no separation, conditions, or exclusions, and is available to us every moment of our lives. Filled with this powerful energy, we experience peace, joy and freedom that defies description.
Think of unconditional love as being so much more than a feeling, and instead as a powerful vibration that has the ability to influence and transform situations. It’s the essence of our true self; that soul-self that is eternal and at one with all that is.
This energy within our bodies is centered in the fourth chakra, the heart center. It is continuously available if we can turn our attention to it and make it a meaningful part of our lives. Scholars, sages, and scientists attest to the powers of creation and metamorphosis of unconditional love- cultivating a relationship with it can produce outcomes that often seem miraculous.
When we shift into this frequency of being and perception, one of the first things we notice is our expanded outlook and higher perspective. Empathy, compassion, and forgiveness are natural outgrowths of this view, and we’re able to see the lessons and opportunities for growth in every situation, even difficult ones.
We can also sense the level of awareness of the other people involved, and understand that during a disagreement, for instance, someone can only react and respond from the level of wisdom and clarity they possess at the time. This realization fosters compassion and a softening of conflict, for that old saying is true- most people are doing the best they can with the knowledge they have, and when they know better, they do better. Every one of us is on a path of growth. Relinquishing judgment, though sometimes difficult, is a sign of unconditional love. (That doesn’t mean we should remain in an unfair situation, but it does help us graciously move on with understanding.)
This creative and dynamic energy knows no barriers- it will find a way to bless everyone it touches as it guides and supports us. It’s an energy of possibility, enabling us to live with more wholeness, balance, and empowerment, transforming our lives for the better.
Finding unconditional love often begins with extending grace to ourselves first, by practicing self-care and self-acceptance. We tend to radiate outward the feelings and beliefs we’re holding inside, and it is difficult to genuinely love if at the deepest level, we don’t believe that we are worthy of love, or we disapprove of ourselves.
Use daily mindfulness practices to tap into compassion and acceptance, and envision divine love streaming into your heart area, then spreading to every part of your body and mind, and then flowing into the world. Rest in that renewing energy for a few moments, and let this practice become part of your life, for it has wide-ranging benefits.
In addition to mindfulness, prayer and affirmations help us access valuable wisdom and insight. As these spiritual practices become habits, we find peace of mind, even during stressful times. This sense of peace is tangible and unmistakable, and it radiates outward to everyone around us.
“Love is the greatest healing power I know. Love can heal even the deepest and most painful memories because love brings the light of understanding to the darkest corners of our hearts and minds.” – Louise Hay
“We look forward to the time when the power of love will replace the love of power. Then will the world know the blessings of peace.” -W. Gladstone
“I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.” -Martin Luther King, Jr.
From Wayne Dyer:
“The nature of the God force, the unseen intelligence in all things, which causes the material world and is the center of both the spiritual and physical plane, is best described as pure, unconditional love.”
“There are only two emotions—fear and love. Go with love. Love yourself, love God, and know that you have within you the capacity and the power to weather through all times, not only to weather through but to make them work for you, and to turn them around. If enough of us begin to act and believe and live this way then negativity and fear will no longer be part of our consciousness.”
“If we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.” -1 John 4:12
